Iran is ready to talk about its nuclear program, but it will not suspend its uranium enrichment program. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made the statement on a speech broadcast live on Iranian television. It comes on day when the head of the UN agency meet in Vienna.

>> Although British and American intelligence suggests that Iran is still five to ten years away from developing an actual nuclear weapon, it's Iran's capability to enrich uranium on an industrial scale that's worrying. Nuclear enrichment is the first step towards building a nuclear bomb. The director general of the international atomic energy agency, Mohamed el abrade, says Iran could have 3,000 centrifuges needed to begin protrusion fissile material within months. Recently revealed plans that the United States is considering attacking Iranian nuclear facilities and its military structure should do little to diffuse the situation.

>> I don't believe that an attack on Iran would end the possibility of Iran having a military nuclear program. Indeed, it might accelerate that program. It would not eliminate the ambition to have such a program. It might indeed confirm it. 45DAF17B.JPG

>> The United States hopes that by building up its military presence in the gulf region Iran will be forced to the diplomatic table. The United Nations Security council has set February 21st is the deadline for Iran to halt its nuclear enrichment program. The IAEA are meeting a delegation in Vienna today.

>> Frances Harrison is in Tehran. Frances second, I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised that the president's got a hard-nosed outlook.

>> I think it was very much similar to the things he's saying in the past. We're willing to have dialog, but in effect,, no we're not willing to suspend our enrichment program. The way he put it is that we're willing to suspend and you should suspend your programs before you talk with us. He knows that's a non-starter. 45DAF1B6.JPG

>> Where do you think that leaves the talks themselves?

>> The plans between Mr. Larijani and Mr. El abrade I doubt will result in some sort of a u-turn from Iran and will cause problems between negotiations between lar jenny and Europe is that every time he got close to negotiating the president, mahmoud ahmadinejad, seemed to scupper any attempt at any kind of rapprochment by making hardline statements. I think dR. Larjani Isned about that aga.

>>Hi Tehran are facing off against each other. Things so, not better.

>> Once this deadline pass on Wednesday, and it look as if ply, then there is the prospect of more U.N. sanctions against Iran. The United States might go for unilateral sanctions against Iran and already the current sanctions are begin to pinch not necessarily because they're only tied to the nuclear program but in a more broader economic sense. They're creating an at most fear of instability and uncertainty about the future that's affecting business here, the Americans banks training with Iranians has become very difficult, for businessmen to get credit to trade with the outside world. A sense that these punitive measures are beginning to have some effect here.
